SURVIVAL OF PLANTS

Seed and fruit dispersal

1. Plants cannot move around freely. Therefore, they need to disperse their seeds and fruits away from the
    parent plants.

2. They do this by scattering their seeds and fruits far away from the parent plants.

3. Dispersal of fruits and seeds
(a) reduces competition between the parent plant and young plants for basic needs such as water, nutrients and space
(b) reduces overcrowding
(c) enables seeds and young plants to grow healthily
(d) provides opportunities to spread the species to new localities

4. Some plants disperse fruits that contain seeds while others disperse seeds themselves.
